Pre-Columbian Pile Strip with alternating Feline and Raptor Profile Heads as decoration.
Peru, Wari Culture. 500 – 800 a.d. The two most potent animal spirits for the Andean people decorate this hard band. The condor the largest flying bird in the world is indicated by the distinctive nostril hole in its curved beak. The feline is identified by the white teeth in its open mouth. These images are worked in a distinctive pile technique that is almost always reserved for the very prestigious four cornered pile hats of the Wari culture. The color and fiber used in this small band is exceptional and this band format is exceedingly rare. This is a precious little gem of a textile. It will look great when mounted. 1.5 x 19 inches.
