Original 1860 edition of: a Practical Treatise On Dying and Calico-Printing Including the Latest Inventions and Improvements. This book is a treasure. i bought it around 1974 and used it to research natural dying methods for indigo, madder root, Cochineal and virtually all other commonly used dyes from the 1860's. Its over 750 pages covers everything in great detail. It even discusses early coal-tar derived dyes – the first synthetics. If you are interested in dyes and dying, this book has formulas, mordants, ratios and anything else you might like to know about natural dying. It covers virtually all the natural dyes and mordants in use at the time. It needs a new binding, but is all there and an extremely valuable resource on 19th century dying practices and methods.
