Back
Turkish felt hanging. The way the wispy felted brown wool was applied here gives a brushstroke-like appearance to the pattern and lends a calligraphic quality to this unique object. The imagery resembles primitive, zoomorphic or plant-like forms. This piece is also reminiscent of certain African Kuba raffia appliquéd textiles in its improvised free- form design aesthetic. It probably dates to the first 3rd of the 20th century - so that makes it vintage - i suppose. Size: 9.5 x 4.5 feet. Evocative, primitive, interesting and painterly - one of a kind in my experience.
