Antique Ladik Prayer rug, dated a.h. 1230 ( 1815 ce); 3’7” x 6’5”
Woven a relatively long vertical shape, this Ladik features the classic
arrangement of a red, triple-arch mihrab set above a panel of three tulips,
and a teal green reserve set above the mihrab containing three totemic
finials and ornaments. Main border with 8-lobed blossoms and “x” shaped
leaflets set on burnt orange. The outer border is well spaced and crisply drawn.
Though the likely age ( actual ) may be closer to 1850, the graceful rendering
of its motifs the quality of its colors may offer argument for date woven in the
white panel at mihrab-center.
Areas of wear, fraying to guard borders, and a small bite at the upper left corner.
