Anatolian kilim woven in two pieces patterned with 10 bands containing double niche saf type designs/motifs. Central Anatolia, before 1800, 155 x 370cm, Published in Early Turkish Tapestries, by b. Frauenknecht, pl. 39, 1984. The infilling elements on the white ground have been colored in such a way as to impart a lively playful character to the kilim as a whole. Comparing the published image with the current images shows the exent of subsequent restoration -- especially of the black areas. Nevertheless, even in unrestored form it is in exceptional condition for its age. One image of the complete kilim is taken in daylight, the other in artificial light.
