Sumak bedding bag end panel, Shahsavan tribe, Hashtrud-Miyaneh region, Northwest Persia, Circa 1860, 55 x 46 cm (21.5 x 18 inches) Part of our new online exhibition https://www.albertolevi.com/exhibitions/from-eurasia-with-love/ Bedding bags with this repeating cruciform motif are typical of the northern area of Miyaneh, which, together with the nearby river area of Hashtrud, defines a region from which originate a group of weavings with distinct aesthetic features. The generous spacing employed for each motif, enhanced by the contrast with its negative form in ivory cotton, together with the intensity of the blue, blue-green and red dyes, makes this a highly desirable jewel of a weaving.
