Very unusual Ewe woman’s cloth cod. 0743. Handspun cotton. Ghana. Circa 1900. Some neat old patches and faint marks, overall good condition. Measurement: 240cm x 138cm (94 x 54 inches). Distinctive C19th cloth with a lattice arrangement of weft faced blocks on a fine striped ground. very unusual Ewe woman’s cloth, this piece arranges the red weft faced blocks typical of early Ewe weaving not into the typical checker-board but rather a lattice type layout broken up by some yellow blocks, on a ground of red and blue pinstripes. Retains its original lower edge border strip.
