Back
Masterful design execution and wonderful natural indigo dyes went in to the making of this Tibetan Makden. It has a central floral motif on each side which is encased in a mandala outline while the main filed is scattered with the belak (footprint of the frog) motif. It has an outer interlocking-T main border which is interspersed with flowers while the secondary inner border is of the ‘rice grain’ pattern. Only two dye colours are used, black and various shades of indigo blue - the center 'strip' where the two halves join being beautifully abrashed - along with natural white and light brown wool. As can be seen the two girth strap holes are lined with leather. It was made circa 1920 and is tightly woven - approx. 85kpsi (1318ksdm) - with a cotton warp and wool weft and the size is 115cm x 62cm (approx. 45.25in x 24.4in). It is in excellent condition.
