Beautiful super-fine hand-woven blue ground Persian Senneh kilim with the classic ‘Herati’ pattern made in what is now known as Iranian Kurdistan. Slit tapestry technique, hand spun wool with a very tight weave, all natural dyes with rich deep colours including various shades of blue, red, green, yellow and ochre. These truly antique Persian Senneh kilims are very rarely, if ever, seen available today in Iran; what great ones like this that are in circulation went to ‘the west’ many years ago. It is a classic example of this small yet historically significant group of determinable Persian weaving's. a small group of relatively rare weaving's to begin with, this stunning piece is from a private collection and was bought in Iran in 1975 and has only ever, in that period, been mounted on a wall and in the one collectors hands. Size is 194cm x 133cm (approx. 76.5in x 52.5in) not including the end fringes, and it was made in the 1800’s / 19th c. (probably circa 3rd quarter) and shows some minor age related wear, but otherwise is in good condition for its age.
