African man's mantle/wrapper, cotton paterned with indigo resist dyeing, approximately 48 x 76 inches, Baule, Ivory Coast, circa 1900. Early Baule textiles are very rare. Two other examples in the Quai Branley Museum, Paris, were collected in 1906. Some overall wear, abarsion, and overall fading from many washings.
