Bolivian Aymara man's mantle (llacota), 16th/17th century, 35 x 44 inches. Very good condition for its age: one small repair in the brown field of about 1/2 x 1 inche; some slightly distressed areas; an area of light staining in one of the side bands. Most early llacotas of this style have at least some overall staining in the side bands, but this llacota has less than most. The warp yarns are atypically fine. This renders the many lines in the two side borders as particularly clear and crisp. This llacota is an exceptional early example of the type.
