An exceptional and very rare Antique Central Asian double sided silk velvet / bakhmal belt dating to the 19th century (with a texture of velvet Ikat). Often such belts are attributed to Uzbek or Turkoman groups, but it is possibly from the little know Central Asian tribe known as the Arab tribe of Central Asia (not Arabs of middle east). They are very rare and hard to come by, especially in such fine weave and gorgeous colours. The intricately drawn motifs and colour combination in this piece is outstanding. The alternating colour combination on each side is just fantastic. Great design. Excellent natural colours. These belts would have been worn on special occasion and they would be wrapped around the waste over a chapan. The masterpiece of textile art is a true gem with a complex weave. In good shape.
