Antique reproduction of a 17th century 'Transylvanian' column prayer rug. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Size: 5ft 1in x 4ft 1in (154 x 125cm).
Circa 1920.
This rug is an excellent reproduction of the well-known and sought after 17th century 'Transylvanian' column design prayer rug that is found displayed in the worlds great museums and private collections. It is thought that this reproduction was woven in Romania during the early part of the 20th century, it has been suggested that it could be from the workshop of the master weaver Teodor Tuduc, who had workshops in Brasov; and produced copies of some of the greatest 16th and 17th century rugs.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear medium / low pile. There are one or two spots of old repairs / damage.
