Unusual front-facing-dragon carpet made in either Ningxia or the Baotou-Suiyuan region of China and which is probably a remake of a much earlier Ningxia carpet that would have originally been made to be 'wall-hung' in a palace in either Inner Mongolia or as a gift (from a Mongolian) for one of the palace’s in Peking. (The Mongolian ‘connection’ can be discerned from the Mongolian script at the top of the carpet, which at this point is undeciphered). It is unusual in the respect that it has the dragon front-facing, as the dragon in this style of carpet is usually portrayed 'side-on' or 'side-facing' for encircling a round column (for a much older example of this style see https://warpandweft.club/portfolio-item/ningxia-item-8/ ). The five clawed dragon is very well drawn as are the wonderful "Ming style" clouds it frolics in. The colours are lustrous, as is the wool, and the size is 241cm x 95cm (95in x 37.5in), the warp and weft are cotton and it was made circa the mid 1900’s. It is in excellent condition and is a carpet that could be wall hung as intended, or used on the floor should one so desire.
