Floral Khagangma seating carpet from Tibet, of a design not often seen. The main field is a simple single flower growing from a trellis like vine. The outermost border is very dark blue cloth covering felt, while the main carpet border consist of four cartouche enclosed floral designs, with a corner flower design enclosed in diamond shaped 'lockets' mimicking the tigma designed tye-dyed cloth much beloved by Tibetans, or a stylised double dorje(?). It was made circa 1920, the size is 91cm x 83cm (approximately 35.75in x 32.5in), all natural dyes and un-dyed wool, while the warp is cotton and the weft is wool. There is low pile throughout but no repairs or reweaves. (a similar example can be seen published on page 141, plate 112, in the book Tibetan Rugs by Hallvard Kare Kuloy.)
