Anatolian saf type kilim with two major double niches or compartments, 150 x 310cm, 17th/18th century. Many overall losses as can be seen in the images. Saf type kilims are widely distributed in Anatolia with many different styles and variations. This kilim is perhaps most similar to the kilim plate 16, pp 64-65 published in Die Farben meiner Traume: Fruhe kelims aus Anatolian. Saf type kilims can have various numbers of niches, 3-10 being the most common, but i can't recall seeing another 2 niche saf kilim. The reduction to only two niches gives the kilim a monumental feeling.
