Back
Large coulissen table.
From Farley Hause ( usa) used in the Civil War by General John Sedgwick.
With a richly decorated foot ending in four claw feet.
Bronze wheels under the legs.
The round top with scalloped edge, above a single baluster column decorated with carved acanthus, on four curved claw feet, including five extra matching interleaves, each with the same decorated edge.
The table has a diameter of 150 cm.
That's big for a round table.
The 5 inlay parts are each 30 cm. wide. together 150 cm. so the total length if you use all parts is 300 cm.
Provenance: purchased at auction in Manassas, Virginia (usa) on October 1, 1966.
Once part of the interior of The Farley House, which was built in 1792 and served as the headquarters for Major General John Sedgwick during the American Civil War. (September 13, 1813 – May 9, 1864)
Given the age of the table, it is possible that John Sedgwick used it.
He was fatally shot by a sniper when he said, '"They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."
