Very rare limited edition Tibetan carpet book entitled “Auspicious Carpets. Tibetan Rugs And Textiles”, edited by Daniel Miller and designed by Tashi d Lek and Kay Garnay (the later both notoriously infamous in their own right in both the Tibetan and Nepalese languages. Ha, Ha. [;-) Contains twelve chpaters by such pioneers in the early Kathmandu / Tibetan carpet scene as Thomas Guta (aka Thombol); Ted Worcester (aka Big Ted / Red Ted), Rupert Smith, Bob van Grevenbroek (aka Dutch Bob / The Dutchman) and Charles Gay. The contents are primarily somewhat condensed versions of the larger articles that appeared (by the same authors) in the long defunct and now very rare soft cover magazine entitled ‘The Nepalese-Tibetan Carpet’, published in Kathmandu, Nepal back in the old daze (i.e. l970s/ early 80’s iirc). Published as a book in 2009, it is a hard cover book with dust jacket in as new condition and contains 147 pages with many b/w and colour photos, some taken “in the field” both of Bhotias in north western Nepal and Tibetans in Tibet and their weaving's. The various chapters contain detailed explanations on many diverse subjects and intricate characteristics related to antique Tibetan carpets written by experts in the field, several of whom have passed on to a non-earthly plane long ago. rip you tullomanchi’s! As of this posting there is simply not a single copy to be found for sale anywhere on the internet. Truly a rare and somewhat ‘historical’ book full of insights from real characters, most whom were present during the glory daze of the developing antique Tibetan carpet biz-e-ness in Ktm, Nepal. Long live the Rock-and Roll Raj!
