Back
19th century double sided Baluch flat-woven bag. Size: 16.5 x 19 inches. This is an unusual bag both for its format and design. It is larger than most personal bags known as (chanteh) that i am familiar with and smaller than most saddle bags. The weft wrapped design forms a tree or plant-like motif on each face of the bag that is reminiscent of prayer rug designs. The design appearing on both faces of the bag links it to the chanteh tradition. The bag is complete with its original goat hair side binding. There are no closure loops at the opening of the bag or evidence of them having been there. The dyes are all natural with a good aubergine ground. This piece has good age. i first owned this piece many years ago and have sold it twice over the last 40 years into good collections. It remains a singular example in my experience and i am always happy when it comes back to me. It is a special piece.
