Antique Ersari Turkmen torba with 'Salor' type design. www.knightsantiques.co.uk Circa 1900. Size: 5ft 1in x 1ft 9in (154 x 54cm). Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed. This example has a well known design with a central large medallion, this style is found in Ersari, Saryk and Salor weavings. The torba is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.
