Circa 1870.
Size: 3ft 10in x 1ft 1in (117 x 34cm)
Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed.
This example has a very well drawn version of the well known mina khani (many flowers) design, which is usually found on chuval and larger rugs. The colours are excellent and there are small highlights in crimson silk.
The torba is in fair condition with even wear and good pile, there are numerous historic damages to the piled face that can be seen in the images. The torba retains it original plain weave back.
Hand washed and ready for display.
