Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of fine weave and small square size. An outstanding example of type.

Size: 3ft 5in x 3ft 8in (104 x 111cm).
These rugs are considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day.
This example has 3 rows of 4 Tekke guls, the main border is of the star in octagon with sunburst design. Note the use of cochineal dye in the centre of the guls. The rug is very well drawn with fine detail especially in the border. Note the original elem panels at both ends with a classic Turkmen design.
The rug has very fine soft wool with excellent colour.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and almost full pile.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
