Back
a colorful fragment with bold graphics that i identify as the bridge (the connecting section between the two bags) of a large khorjin, most likely Jaff Kurd. Its size is appropriate--it is 36” x 8” (91 cm x 20 cm)--many of the larger Jaff Kurd bagfaces are at least this wide. The quality of the wool and the colors are both superb, as one would expect for Kurd. Weaving technique includes weft substitution and various weft-wrapping (remember that the warps of this piece run across the short dimension). It has several delicate hand-tied tassels at each short end---not clear if these were original to the khorjn, or added later to embellish this decorative fragment. Works well in a narrow space, hanging vertically (but which direction is up?), but just as graphic viewed horizontally as the weaver would have seen it. Long edges are overcast to prevent raveling. Images taken outdoors in bright natural light--not direct sunlight. Contact me at rjemry@gmail.com
