Circa 1880.
Size: 8ft 6in x 4ft 0in (259 x 123cm).
This is a good example of a well known group of long rugs attributed to the town of Akstafa. This rug is of classic design with three 'star' medallions on a midnight blue ground. Each medallion is flanked by the traditional Akstafa birds with large peacock like tails. The field is filled with many tribal devices and designs, including small animals. The border is a good example of the classic ivory ground Akstafa design.
The rug has a soft floppy handle with fine wool, the colour palette gives the rug a soft warm feel.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
