Back
Enigmatic double niched Baluch rug. This is the only example of the format that i have seen that is asymmetrically knotted. There are two distinct colors of camel used, one in the field, and a second in the four corner-pieces. In terms of color, the piece is divided into two distinct but unequal hemispheres, the top using a noticeably lighter red. The proportions are also narrower for the type measuring 56x133cm. There is oxidation of the brown color but the full two chord goat hair selvedge is preserved on both sides. The striped kilim on both ends is largely preserved, more so on the bottom.
This piece was published in Hali 76 (1994) as part of the article, 'From the Horse's Mouth: Talking Baluch with Jerry Anderson' by Tom Cole.
