Back
Anatolian saf type kilim with 5 saf niche forms, 162 x 361cm, 17th/18th century. Overall losses and damage that can be seen in the images. The images also show remains of re-inforcing mesh used in wetcleaning. Though cleaned once, the kilim has deeply ingrained soil and could benefit from a second cleaning. The colors are not bright and intense; rather the overall color sense is warm, with soft and mellow colors. This type of saf is uncommon. For smilar examples see: Frauenknecht, Early Turkish Tapestries, pl. 25 and Anatolian Kilims in the Mc Coy Jones Collection, pl 88. Neither example, however, is as early and aesthetically distinguished as my example.
