An excellent and rare antique fully silk embroidered Uzbek or Tajik Bridal hair braid cover dating to the19th Century. It is fully silk embroidery using very fine basma stitch. Often these are wrongly attributed to the Karakalpak. But their stitch indicated to be from Ura Tube region. It has a gorgeous floral design of repeating twin flowers in red with shrubs in pistachio green and golden colour intricate cross detail. The colours are fantastic and all derived from natural dyes. Most examples are thinner but this is very wide and the photos don’t reflect the true beauty and size of the piece. Please see photo with my hand in it to get a sense of scale. It is finished with a beautiful crochet silk finish with polychrome silk tassels. It is in good over all condition with natural age and patina. i it has a gorgeous faux Ikat (Ikat patterned Russian cotton) lining which in itself is very rare. a fine piece worthy of good collection. size: 59cm x 17cm (23” x 6.5”).
