Antique Caucasian Shirvan or Dagestan prayer rug with scarce diagonal stipe design.
www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Circa 1870.
Size: 4ft 9in x 3ft 7in (145 x 109cm).
An outstanding example of this well documented group of prayer rugs, this rug is very will drawn with diagonal stripe in ivory, soft red and blue. The rug has a classic main border and rosette design to the guard stripes. The rug has a slightly softer colour palette to the lower end.
A very closely related example is published in 'Caucasian Prayer Rugs' by Ralph Kaffel, Plate 72, page 126.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile.
Hand washed and ready for use or display, this rug would make an outstanding wall hanging.
Stock Number: h-518.
