Ierusalimskaja, a. a. Moshchevaia balka. [Moshtcevaya Balka. An Unusual Archaeological Site at the North Caucasus Silk Road]. St. Petersburg: The State Hermitage Publishers, 2012, 1st ed., 4to (27 x 22cm), 384 pp., numerous colour and b/w illus., maps in text, drawings, boards. An excellent source on the history of the Silk Road, early Chinese, Soghdian, Byzantine and Islamic textiles. Of special interest is the ‘goods of a Chinese merchant’ including a notebook testifying to the actual presence there of their owner in the 8th century. The specific feature of the burial site is the wonderful state of preservation of organic materials (wood, leather, textiles, etc.). Main text in Russian, Summary in English.
