Pair Franco-Flemish late 16th cent tapesry panels in wool and silk removed from the border from what must have been an important and monumental tapestry.
The attendant figures on each side of the panels have sphinx like tails whose representation has come down from Renaissance times and before Classical Egyptian or Ancient Greece. The source of the decoration could be late Renaissance Deruta Maiolica tableware.
