Antique Central Anatolian rug,3'8 x 4'10, Karapinar region, 1850-1875. All wool foundation, ivory wool warps with mixture of ivory and dark brown wefts. Scattered areas of wear (see photos), but with many areas of full, thick pile. Saturated color, vibrant blue and deep burnt orange, with variegated tones of green, and corroseive brown-purple - all natural dyes. Much of the original multi-colored, three-cord selvedges intact. Some losses to the ends, but most of the Karapinar 'lappets' remain. Soft supple handle commensurate with age. Very clean, has been washed.
