Antique Chodor Turkmen main carpet, 6'8 x 8'6, first half of the nineteenth century. a field of classic Chodor 'Tauk Nuska' guls with 'chuval gul' minor elements. An early example as indicated by the variegated chocolate purple aubergine color, color variations in the medallions (some of the little animals have white or red heads), and the true curled leaf vinescroll main border at the upper and lower ends. As with other Chodors of this age, there is a good deal of wear which shows up because of the the white cotton wefts, typical of Chodor weaving, although it is offset by the brown goat hair warps of the foundation. a few slits or tears here and there (repaired), with some losses at either end. Sides intact with the original Chodor checkered selvedges. some very old, faded repairs (see photos). Plenty pictures to provide a good idea of the overall condition.
