This 3rd quarter 19th century Angora Oushak Oriental Rug #8119 measures 6’7” x 11’6”. The prayer design is in ivory containing two columns in rust with a bulbous design at either end of the columns. The beautiful blue spandrels contain floral motifs in several shades of red and ivory. All is encompassed with eight pairs of reciprocal borders with meandering “s” design or floral motifs on a grey blue, ivory or medium blue ground. The main border is in a dark tobacco with meandering flowers. The outside border about 1 inch wide is missing at both ends. It happened a long time ago and was professionally done. Not a big problem. The rug shows wear commiserate with age.
This oversized prayer rug is remarkably drawn and quite big for its type. It is woven in beautiful rare soft angora wool and belongs in a bedroom for it is literally screaming for naked feet!
The rug is clean and ready to go.
