This circa 1870 Tachte Shirvan #6733 measures 3 ‘ 8” x 4’ 5 “. In my knowledge this is an unpublished design. It is a very rare type of Shirvan. It consists of four rectangles. The top two are in blue and aubergine. The bottom two are in wheat to gold and blue. Between the rectangles are what appear to be Christian churches pointing to Armenian production. All is enclosed with botehs which remind me rooks (in a chessboard), all on a tomato red ground. The major border is leaf and calyx (wineglass) design in tomato, a dark sage green and pale blue with aubergine on a golden wheat ground. It has two minor borders which are meandering s design which is very tightly drawn. The ends and sides are complete and the rug is clean and ready to go. It is 99% full pile. It has wear as photographed.
