Antique Afghan Sistan Baluch 'Seh (Three) Mihrab' prayer rug.
Circa 1900.
This is a good example of a seh-mihrab (three mihrab) prayer rug by the Taimani Baluch, the rug is well drawn and has wonderful soft colour palette. The Taimani Baluch were semi nomadic in the Sistan Provence of Western Afghanistan, this design of prayer rug is unique to them.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear, and good pile. The rug has very soft wool with long glossy pile; the olive browns are corroded giving a sculpted effect. a very good example of this type of prayer rug.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
