Antique Quchan Kurd rug with Turkmen style gul design.
Circa 1900/20.
This is an interesting example of a relatively small group of rugs woven by the Quchan Kurds of Eastern Persia. The gul design is very similar to that of the Ersari Turkmen, although the colour palette is clearly Kordi. The weave is also coarser with longer soft pile, giving the rug a very floppy handle. The three rows of guls stand out against the rich burgundy red ground. The border design is interesting and frames the rug well.
The rug is in good condition with slight wear and good pile, there is an old repair to the kilim at the lower left hand corner, and the left hand side of the rug is a little wrinkled. (All reflected in the price).
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
