Antique Luri tribal long rug with medallion design.
Circa 1900.
This rug is an excellent example of Luri tribal weaving, with a field of five latch hook medallions. The medallions are filled with rosettes and other tribal devices, the indigo blue field contains many small rosette flowers and tribal designs. The border designs are typical of Luri work. The rug has a very rustic, tribal feel; note how the drawing of the medallions is very irregular and the rug has a slightly irregular shape.
The rug has slight wear with good pile, there are a few spots of heavier wear; the wool quality and colours are outstanding.
The rug is suitable for heavy domestic use such as an entrance hall.
