a beautiful Antique Kordi saltbag or so called Namakdan from Northeast Persia displaying animal caravans on one side. Woven in Soumakh technique. a Namakdan is a container to store and carry salt. This was mostly woven for nomad shepherds, to take the salt needed for flock in pasture and mountain. Shepherds used to carry the namakdan on their shoulder and once in a while sprinkled some of the salt on the rock, next to the flock, to make them lick the salt, in order to provide them with enough salt.
