Size: 4ft 7in x 2ft 7in (139 x 79cm).
Antique Timuri / Baluch camel ground prayer rug with unusual Turkmen inspired design, from Western Afghanistan.
Circa 1880.
The natural undyed camel wool really glows in the light and has very subtle changes in colour as you move over the rug. This rug belongs to a small group of weavings with this Turkmen inspired design. Note the large panels at each end in soumak work.
The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium / low pile. There are several small splits where the soumak end panels join the rug, these could easily be repaired. There is also an old small repair just above the centre middle of the rug, this can be seen in the images.
The rug is ready for use or display.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
