Size: 4ft 8in x 2ft 9in (142 x 85cm). Antique Baluch prayer rug by the Yaqoub Khani sub tribe of the Timuri, with box design on a camel wool ground. Circa 1870 or earlier. This is a very unusual and possibly rare Timuri / Baluch prayer rug, the well known box design is on a camel ground. The drawing of the 'willow leaf' design in the camel coloured boxes is very detailed with an archaic feel. The hand placements are of willow leaf design. Note the original flat woven panel with bands of piled work at the upper end. The border is of a very simple leaf design. All of the design elements point towards this being a very early example of this type of prayer rug, i have not seen an earlier example published. The rug is in fair condition with wear in places and medium pile. The rug has some old repairs, mainly to the sides and some old areas of slight damage. This is a collectable rug that would make a superb wall hanging. The rug is suitable for light domestic use. Stock Number: ds-0488.
