Size: 4ft 5in x 3ft 3in (135 x 99cm). Antique Afghan Taimani Sistan Baluch 'Seh (Three) Mihrab' prayer rug. Circa 1900. This is a good example of a seh-mihrab (three mihrab) prayer rug by the Taimani Baluch, the rug is well drawn and has an 'earthy' soft colour palette, note the use of camel wool through out. The Taimani Baluch were semi nomadic in the Sistan Provence of Western Afghanistan, this design of prayer rug is unique to them. The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear, and good pile. The rug has very soft wool with glossy pile; the browns are corroded in places. a very good example of this type of prayer rug, possibly older than most. The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
