Antique Afghan Taimani Sistan Baluch 'Seh (Three) Mihrab' prayer rug.
Circa 1900.
This is an outstanding example of a seh-mihrab (three mihrab) prayer rug by the Taimani Baluch, the rug is well drawn and has a superb colour palette, the warm madder red ground and burnt orange make this rug visually very pleasing. The drawing of the design is beautifully executed, with some unusual features. The rug retains the original kilim end finishes with weft work decoration. The Taimani Baluch were semi nomadic in the Sistan Provence of Western Afghanistan, this design of prayer rug is unique to them.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear, and good pile. The rug has very soft wool with glossy pile; The lower kilim end show some wear with slight losses.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
