Antique Afghan Timuri Baluch rug from Western Afghanistan with willow leaf design.
Circa 1880.
a good Timuri Baluch rug from Western Afghanistan, with repeat willow leaf design in alternating colours, giving a lattice design. The ground colour is a very soft madder red, the dark indigo blue stands out against this. The border is of the well known meandering vine design. The soft olive brown in the border is quite unusual. Note how the inner and outer guards are made up of small white floral rosettes, these really stand out and give the rug structure.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile, there is some dye corrosion to the olive browns.
A good Timuri rug with excellent wool quality and older than most examples.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
