Circa 1870 or earlier.
Size: 3ft 1in x 1ft 5in (95 x 43cm).
This small Tekke Turkmen mafrash is the face of a small bag used for keeping personal belongings in, it was usually hung up inside the yurt. This example is of 'aina' gul design, there are four rows of three box like guls containing the kotchak design, which is filled with a star. The purple / pink dye is cochineal or lac.
The bag face is in fair condition with even wear and medium pile and corrosion, there are old repairs to the corners and sides.
A good display item that could be hung on a wall or used on top of a table or chest.
