Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of small square size, these rugs are generally considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Circa 1880 or earlier.
Size: 3ft 3in x 3ft 1in (99 x 93cm).
This is an excellent example with the Tekke 'aina gul' design to the field, there are 48 guls on this rug. This design is normally found on small fine weavings such as chuval and torba. The rug is of very fine weave with the design drawn with precise detail, using cochineal dyed wool as a highlight in the guls. Note the very well drawn large elem end panels with large Turkmen tree design.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile. The rug is very fine and has a soft floppy handle.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
A superb example of Tekke weaving.
