Antique Baluch prayer rug possibly by the Baluch tribes of Turkestan. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Circa 1900.
Size: 4ft 0in x 2ft 10in (145 x 91cm).
This is a very unusual prayer rug, with the well known box design on a camel coloured ground. The rug is very well drawn with a lot of detail, the knotting is very fine with excellent quality wool. Note the original end finishes with decoration; the use of ivory wool warps is typical of the Turkestan Baluch who have a lot of Turkmen influence in their weaving.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
