This pre 1850 Kuba measures 3’7” x 9’4”. It has a dark blue ground with a very interesting motif. There are 22 blossoms in shades of green, red, blue, and tobacco completely drawn except for the two at the top which are halves. The rug is completely covered in images of animals in ivory, red, green, checkerboards and yellow. This rug is all encompassed with an ivory Kufic border which is totally asymmetrical. The end borders have nothing to do with each other. The side borders are situated differently and out of align with each other. The reciprocal borders are on a yellow ground heading towards tobacco and have a meandering leaf and flower design. The ends and sides are complete. The rug shows wear consistent with its age. This is one of the most attractive and complicates Kubas i have ever seen.
