Antique Central Anatolian rug,4 x 5'11, Konya Region, probably Karaman, mid nineteenth century. The rug is in remarkable condition for its age. Some areas of lower pile, but much of it is thick and lush. Excellent, saturated natural dyes with considerable variegation or abrash. The greens and purples are especially lovely, but really nice orange and rust tones as well. Lustrous soft wool. Spacious, grand composition in the field nicely contrasting with dynamic, small-scale color variations in the border. Note the unusual devices in the cornerpieces. Ivory warps and wool wefts in varied shades from black to browns and soft purple. Four-cord purple selvedges. Minor scattered repairs.
