Back
Thick warp-faced-back Wangden-style Tibetan Tsokden (a runner or long carpet) – of a design type which according to recent published research was woven specifically and exclusively for monks to sit on in a monastery – with a simple red ladder-like or ‘antenna’ design on a plain yellow background. (What may appear to be a dirty or stained horizontal line across the center of the carpet is simply intermittent tufts of brown undyed wool that were woven into the pile when it was made.) Made sometime in the 1800's / 19th century, the dyes are natural and the construction is of fine hand-spun wool and yak hair. Size is 210cm x 97cm (approximately 83in x 38in). One end has been replied which gives rise to it being shortened from a longer runner, but there are no repairs or reweaves anywhere else to the main body of the carpet. Overall it is in very good condition. For more photos and a much more detailed description of the carpet please see https://warpandweft.club/portfolio-item/wangdens-item-5/
