Pre-Columbian tunic, 57 x 67 inches (143 x 170cm) each side; patterned by 5 horizontal zig-zag stripes on each side. Inca period, Peru. This is one of the largest tunics known to me. It seems too large to have been made to be worn, rather it was made as a grave/burial offering for some high status person. The condition is outstanding; there is only one area of light staining on one side; the other side is pristine. Moreover, the tunic seems never to have been wetcleaned. if cleaned by a competant conservator, even the light stains could probably be substantially removed.
